How’s the market?  As a real estate professional it’s the most frequent question I hear.   With all the gloom and doom at the national reporting level, it’s no wonder people are concerned.  But predicting the local real estate market based on the national news is like predicting the local temperature based on the national average - it’s simply not accurate. Instead we need to look at our local numbers and that’s what this report is about.
 
Now that the 2011 sales are in the books, it’s a great time for me to share how the Boston market performed this past year.  And it’s very good news indeed!  First I'll recap where we were earlier this year.  Then I’ll explain how 2011 turned out across the city and how it fits into longer term trends.  Finally I’ll explain what this all means for moving forward.  As always, the numbers come from the Multiple Listing Service, but the charts and analysis are mine (After all, I’ve got to use that Brandeis Economics degree now and again!)
